North Miami, Florida- The skies were dark but the spirits of the Miami Fury players were bright as they took the field to face The Orlando Mayhem on June 6, 2009. The game started quickly as the Mayhem took the ball and drove deep into Fury territory and then on a 4th and 1 play Keisha McDonald of The Fury stopped Toya Coogle of the Mayhem and the Fury took over on downs. A few plays later Quarterback Anonka Dixon of the Fury escaped a potential sack and scampered out to the left and turned up field and won the 81 yard foot race into the end zone giving the Fury a 6-0 lead the try for point would fail. The teams would exchange possessions and then with 5 minutes to go in the half the Fury would score on a 36 yard touchdown run by Kalondra McKenzie making the score 12-0 again the try for point would fail. The Fury would kick off to the Mayhem to start the second half and Shawntavia Brown would recover a fumble on the kick off giving the Fury momentum however the Fury would turn the ball over later in the drive giving the ball back to the Mayhem. With 3:00 Minutes left in the 3rd quarter the Fury would score to take an 18-0 lead on a Ronkia Toombs 32 yard touchdown run.
